I read an article this morning about cold calling and how it is basically dead as a selling technique. I have to say I agree & disagree. Cold calling used as an information gathering tool and a precursor to embarking on a business relationship is a valuable tool.
However Cold-Calling as an aggressive sales tactic where sales people use it as a means of introducing a product and attempting to close a sale on the same call is as dead as the Dodo in my opinion. Personally I hate it when I receive these calls. It interrupts me, it puts me on the defensive and many approaches are clumsy and unprofessional.
So is cold calling dead or is it just a case that successful sales people have just evolved it into something else?
